GODDAMN IT!!!

I have complained about my overly sensitive smoke detector that went off whenever i made stir fry, or other items that involved butter meeting rocket-hot pan. The thrice-bedamned leasing office has replaced my sensitive smoke detector with one that is *very* sensitive. now the fucking thing goes off when i'm baking MEATLOAF!!!

HOW DO I SILENCE THIS THING SAFELY?! I MUST KNOW!!!

Don't burn yer loaf!

Just kidding, of course. I'd say disable it and install your own.

What mcmiller said. If it's hardwired, take out the lead and put one of those plastic caps on there. If it's battery powered, take out the batteries. Nothing says that you have to take it down. Just put up one of your own next to/near it.

Trouble is, putting up a smoke detector of my own is rather a large signal that the existing detector is malfunctioning in some way. If maintainence comes in to do something and sees it, it'd be rather obvious that i'm breaking one of the tenets of the lease. i don't know if i'd be evicted, or what.
