Yesterday's post

Okay, I first heard about the fracas at Saoba's livejournal. Another friend had posted something similar, but I failed to find it on scanning back Friends page entries. So I did a little digging and found this post at Jesus' General's blog, this post at Jezebel, and then this post at Strollerbaby.

Conclusion: general idiocy on the internet. Which still burns us, precious.

You didn't do it, but this is a total tempest in a teapot.
Well I traced all that back to the source and it appears all of 4 people on one forum for mostly ignorant nutters talked about this, very briefly, and it got quoted all over the place and blown up as if there are a ton of people who think this solves anything. Out of those 4 people, none of them seriously thought the president would drop trou and two of them were openly joking about it while the other two only speculated on circumcision practices.

In other words, no one I can find actually thinks this should happen but somehow it has been flung all over the internet and made much of, and I can't figure out how. This is pulled from comments 9,601-9,650. Who the hell read all of that to find those comments? Why did SO many sites pick it up? Seriously, this, to me, kind of makes democrats look like paranoid assholes and is more fodder for the "information control conspiracy" theorists.

Best response: "They think its the REAL stimulus package."

I'm actually somewhat comforted by the fact that it was just nutter commenters, rather than Real "Honest" Media Coverage. but the sheer inflammatoriness(I just invented a word!) meant that a metric boatload of people picked it up and ran with it. God *bless* the intarwebs!

I'm going to have to guess some internet forum ala 4chan is responsible for flinging this poo far and wide.

But yes, I was really going to lose my faith in humanity if a serious contingent of people wanted the president to have his cock examined because uncircumcised dicks just aren't American! Unless they are home births, of course.

I should point out that my husband and both of his brothers were not because his dad insisted that they shouldn't be. Parents *always* have a choice, but most don't exercise it or care to.

My annoyance was not that Real Media was giving this serious coverage. My annoyance is based in the sheer idiocy of the various birther/not MY president/I'd take a gun to Washington/He's a MUSLIM!/He's a SOCIALIST! ninnyhammers.

There are actual problems in this country and in the world and there's a contingent of people who are proudly disrupting any attempt to make progress.

It's not the handful of people on one comment thread on one post on some website who worry me. I have encountered this nonsense offline- I had a serious conversation with my hair stylist over the 'facts' her neighbor was sharing with her about the Obama plans to put his opponents in concentration camps.

As for people picking it up and running with it- I think that the way to combat this kind of lunacy is to ridicule it- so I did.
