The Mentalist

I'm watching the first episode of The Mentalist

This show starts out very very strange

This guy, ob'vy part of a police team, walks into the house wherein a murder has been committed. The family are outside making a press statement. He puts the teakettle on to boil, makes a sandwich and eats it! This breaks so many social barriers, it blows my mind! It's a very good way of introducing this guy as something other than normal.

Oh, wait. I think I know why he's doing it. the mother of the murdered girl has just come in, distraught. He's using it to break down social barriers. he's placing himself into an intimate space so she can speak freely and say things she would never dream of telling a total stranger. Oh, this is very interesting.

HOLEE SHIT! (to the father)"Hi. I'm the police. Did you kill your daughter?"
Jeebus aitch criminy?! You don't just up and SAY THAT to somebody! I'm flabbergasted!

"An innocent man would have punched me by now." *dayumn*

"I'm sorry. He irks me. He's irksome." SPLORFLE!!!

Hmmm, you're a touch brass-balled, aren't you, detective lisbon?

Definitely something other than normal. He has a few issues interacting with other people. He doesn't hesitate to tell someone that he thinks their opinion is wrong. Not necessarily AS, since he made a successful living as a TV psychic. You can't do that if you can't read other people.

I've been watching it all along and like it. CBS is saying it's the number 1 new show this season, but not saying how they calculated it. In later eps, you find out some of his background -- both personal and professional.
